Tim and Tamsin´s Travels in South America
An account of our travels in South America (October 2004 - May 2005). Click on the photos to ENLARGE.
Sloth Hospital and Cheeky Monkeys
The only one of it's kind in the world, the Sloth Hospital on the road to Limon was as cute as a barrel load of puppies. The star is Buttercup, a three fingered sloth who was the first one to be saved and who started the ball rolling.
At the moment there are lots of babies who are beeing bottle fed and who spend there time just hanging around and sleeping...lots. They will all enter into the program to get released into the wild.
Down the road is Cahuita National Park which we reached on a scooter. We were lucky and the day we went the White Faced Capuchins came really close and hung out with us for about an hour. They even let us see the babies!

Puerto Viejo, Limon, Costa Rica
In the crazy world of airline prices, a stop in Central America on route from Rio to the Galapagos didn't add much to the cost so Tamsin suggested a visit to Puerto Rico. Tim got mixed up and read a book on Costa Rica (They sound pretty similiar!). It sounded much nicer though so here we are!
We rented a house near the beach on the Caribbean coast in the rainforest with amazing wildlife (monkeys and Toucans in the garden), took Spanish lessons and relaxed on the beach. Tim tried out surfing with some success but struggled with the looking really cool bit...that's for another day.

Rio de Janiero and the masses
We spent 2 weeks in Rio de Janiero but there's not many photos as the place isn't safe so we didn't take the camera much.
The highlights:
- A free Lenny Kravitz concert on Copacabana beach with over 1 million people proceeded by Drum and Bass to warm up the crowd!
- Listening to bossanova followed by dinner with another couple from our hostel at "The Girl from Ipanema" bar - the song was written there.
- The sunset behind the statue of Christ the redeemer from Sugerloaf mountain.
- Attending a football match between two local teams at the Maracana stadium. It was filled to capacity and the crowds were controlled with swords!!
- And finally enjoying the beach and the sunshine.
